BEND SWIM CLUB, INC.
Athlete Code of Conduct

We are proud of you for being part of the Bend Swim Club (BSC). This Athlete Code of Conduct helps ensure that we all train, compete, and grow in a safe, supportive environment. By following these standards, we build trust, respect, and team spirit—on deck and beyond.

Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to promote individual and team excellence, both in and out of the water. Our goals are to:

  • Provide a positive environment to encourage, educate, and engage our athlete members.
  • Provide a challenging environment to promote mental, physical, and emotional growth.
  • Provide a respectful environment to foster sportsmanship, self-control, and humility.

In this environment, we will strive to swim faster than we have before—and support others in doing the same.

Expectations for Athlete Behavior

All swimmers are expected to:

  • Treat teammates, coaches, officials, volunteers, and competitors with kindness and respect.
  • Listen to and follow directions from coaches and chaperones when under team supervision.
  • Avoid inappropriate physical contact or any behavior that makes others uncomfortable.
  • Use respectful, appropriate language at all times.
  • Show good sportsmanship at practices, meets, and team activities.
  • Respect all facilities we use, including pool space, locker rooms, and meet venues.
  • Never bully, threaten, or intimidate another swimmer — in person or online.

Safety and Compliance

As a member of USA Swimming, all BSC athletes are expected to:

  • Follow the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP), which outlines safe boundaries for interactions between athletes and adults.
  • Avoid possession or use of alcohol, tobacco, vaping devices, or illegal substances.
  • Refrain from deck changing, inappropriate physical contact, and possession of pornography.
  • Avoid unsupervised one-on-one interactions with adult coaches or volunteers.
  • Follow the Bend Swim Club Social Media & Electronic Communication Policy, which is based on USA Swimming’s Safe Sport standards. This includes avoiding inappropriate posts, respecting team privacy, and not engaging in one-on-one digital communication with adult coaches or volunteers.

Bullying and Harassment

Bullying, harassment, or intimidation of any kind is strictly prohibited. This includes verbal, physical, written, or electronic actions that:

  • Cause physical or emotional harm to another member.
  • Create a hostile or disruptive environment.
  • Infringe on others’ rights or safety at any BSC or USA Swimming event.

Athletes are encouraged to report concerns to a coach, parent, or the BSC Safe Sport representative.

Violations and Consequences

Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:

  • Verbal warning or redirection by a coach.
  • Restriction from team activities or meets.
  • Suspension or removal from the team.

Reports of serious violations will be investigated by the coaches and/or the BSC Safe Sport representative. Swimmers and their families will be informed of outcomes in a timely manner.

Agreement

By registering with Bend Swim Club, I agree to uphold this Athlete Code of Conduct during the current swim season. I understand that these expectations help keep all athletes safe, focused, and supported. My family and I have reviewed these standards together.
